Pagan is the most wondrous site in Myanmar. Across 40 sq km of countryside, stretching back from the Irrawaddy River, stand spectacular religious archaeological sites with thousands of stupas and temples. We will see ruins of all sizes – huge temples soaring into the sky and small stupas standing alone in fields. Nestled on the Shan Plateau, Inle Lake is a scenic gem with its famous leg-rowing Intha fisherman and colorful floating markets. |
Fly in the morning to Yangon via Bangkok. Upon arrival, transfer to Hotel Traders.
Day 2
Transfer to the airport for the early morning flight from Yangon to Pagan. Upon arrival, we will check into Thiritputsaya Hotel. Pagan is the most amazing sight in Myanmar if not Southeast Asia. Across 40 sq km of the country, there are literally thousands of stupas & temples. In every direction, you will see ruins of all sizes, some soaring into the sky and others standing quaintly at a corner. The meandering Irrawady completes the scene. Our exploration of this amazing archaeological site starts from the golden stupa of Shwezigon. Then, we continue to Kubyauk Gyi with exquisite murals and Ananda, rated by many as the most beautiful in Pagan. In the afternoon, we continue with Nanpaya, for its Mon style architecture, Manhua for its four Buddha images and then stop at a lacquerware factory to see the production of Myanmar’s most famous handicraft. Then, we climb up Shweshandaw Pagoda for the sunset over Pagan.
Day 3
This morning, we will transfer to the airport for flight Pagan/Heho. Upon arrival we will drive about one hour to Nyangshwe, the gateway to the unique and magical Inle Lake, which is located 1,328 meters above sea level and is 22 km long and 11 km wide. From Nyangshwe, we will take a boat ride to Inle Princess, a deluxe lakeside resort.
Day 4
Today, we will enjoy a full day of boating around the lake. Highlights include the fisherman rowing in the one-legged style characteristic of Inle Lake boatmen and the gardens of grass and earth floating on the surface of this shallow lake, floating strips of “land” for growing vegetables. Besides the enjoyment of the scenery there is a visit to the “jumping cats” monastery, Phaungdaw U Pagoda and weaving factories.
Day 5
Rise early this morning. We will boat back to Nyangshwe and drive back to Heho for flight to Yangon.
Upon arrival, we will transfer to Hotel Traders for a place to rest later. In the afternoon, we will tour Yangon including the old colonial city, Kandawyi Lake and Shwedagon, one of the most outstanding religious monuments in Southeast Asia, where we will enjoy the sunset. In the late evening, we will transfer to the airport for the return flight to Shanghai via Bangkok.
Day 6
Arrive in Shanghai at around 6:30am.
