Laos’ isolation from foreign influence offers travelers an unparalleled glimpse of traditional Southeast Asian life. From the fertile lowlands of the Mekong River Valley to the rugged Annamite Highlands, Laos offers some of the most untarnished attractions in the region. Situated along the meandering Mekong River and filled with ancient temples and old houses, Luang Prabang, a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site, is one of the most alluring places in Southeast Asia. To many travelers, it is the last haven in Asia. It is also becoming a destination for nature lovers wanting to travel off the beaten path. On this trip, which is tailored for families, we will incorporate interesting activities that will thrill adults and children alike. |
Day 1
We will take an afternoon flight to Bangkok where will stay overnight at the Bangkok Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel.
Day 2
Today, we will fly to Luang Prabang where we will first transfer to our hotel. In the afternoon, we will explore Luang Prabang, a beautiful city situated at the junction of the Mekong and Khan Rivers. Its many historical buildings are well preserved and the medieval ambience remains intact. Here, we will visit Wat Visunalat and Wat Ahama before climbing Mt. Phousy for a panoramic view of the city and surrounding countryside.
Day 3
Today, those who want to wake up early can join the local people in their morning ritual of offering alms to the monks on their morning walk. After breakfast we will visit Wat Xieng Thong (Golden City Temple), the city’s most magnificent temple. We will continue our tour to the former Royal Palace and the National Museum. In the afternoon, we will take a ride on a traditional long boat up the Mekong River and visit the famous Pak Ou Cave. En route, we will stop by Ban Xang Khong, the village well-known for its wood paper and silk weaving. At the upper section of the limestone cave, we will see images of Buddha in many styles and sizes.
Day 4
We will travel just outside of Luang Prabang to a mountainous jungle where we will check into the Laos Spirit Resort for the night. The day will be spent getting close to nature and enjoying the simple life at the Elephant Mahout. Here, we will participate in elephant washing and feeding, as well as riding the elephants and sharing time with the locals. If time permits, we will take a short trek to visit a small Khmu village and enjoy the scenery around the Tad Sae waterfalls. Back at the Laos Spirit Resort, we will enjoy the jungle in luxury as we experience amazing views of the jungle from our bed, bath and terrace.
Day 5
After breakfast and the morning elephant riding lesson, we will take a kayak trip that will guide us past a beautiful riverside waterfall, and numerous encounters with Lao Loum villagers. The rest of the late afternoon is free to soak up the idyllic charm of this relaxing town.
Day 6
The morning is free at our leisure. In the afternoon, we will transfer to the airport for our flight to Bangkok, followed by an overnight flight to Shanghai.
Day 7
Arrive in Shanghai in the early morning.
