Between 1950 AND 1978, over 18 million youth, ages 16-20, left their homes in the big cities and relocated to rural areas. Towards what purpose? Were they there to help support the local community, or further their own education? Where did they go? How did they adapt to their new homes? Why do their stories remain hidden? Today, Lisa Zhu will help us to understand this sensitive part of China’s past as she takes us on a tour of this unique museum. Afterwards, we will visit the East China Guanyin temple and hike around the pagoda for a spectacular 360 panoramic view. Our final stop will be at the spot where the Huangpu river meets the sea.
