Today, Xujiahui may seem nothing more than a transportation nexus. Most Shanghai residents only go there to work or purchase questionably reliable electronic toys. A mere 20 years ago it was the deserted end of town, and 50 years before that, it was the centre of Jesuit power in eastern China. We will explore the remnants of this sacred history with a focus on the influence of Catholic missionaries at this, the far end of the French Concession. Further emphasis will be on historic buildings one can enter and explore.
