Join us for a walking tour of architecture, history, and culture. In 1897, an American, Route Ferguson, who was the English teacher of Nanyang Public School, built a road so his colleagues and students could easily get to school. It was named Ferguson Road and, later in the 1930s, renamed Wukang Road. It is only 1.17 km long, but each house and its details tell interesting stories and reveal colorful history. Many political leaders, elites, merchants, and celebrities once lived here, including—but not limited to—Huangxing, a revolutionary who co-founded the Republic of China; Mo Shangqing, nicknamed the “Silk King”; and Bajin, a master in Chinese literature. We will also visit the former residence of Soong Ching Ling and the Normandie Apartments designed by Hudec, the famous Hungarian architect.
