The Forgotten World

Event Details

  • Date:

Much of Shanghai’s history is hidden, with many astonishing buildings as the source of these stories. You may have seen the old shikumen houses, and you may have visited the phenomenal buildings on the Bund, but what our guide Lisa Zhu will introduce us to today is unlike anything else you have seen. It’s a building originally constructed as a dormitory for police officers who worked in the British Police Station. Then, it was converted into one of the most luxurious apartment complexes in Shanghai. Today, nearly 300 families are crammed into this space and it is a world unto itself. This buzzing structure was reputedly the inspiration behind Stephen Chow’s film Kung Fu Hustle.
