The Power Station of Art, the first state-instituted contemporary museum in Shanghai, opened on October 1, 2012 as the main venue for the Shanghai Biennale, a global event that takes place every two years showcasing works by international and Chinese artists. This year’s guest curator is the world-renown Cuauhtémoc Medina from Mexico. With the theme “Proregress: Art in an Age of Historical Ambivalence” this year’s biennale seeks to ask questions more than provide answers. Art Historian and Adjunct Professor of Art History Julie Chun will lead an insightful guided museum talk as we discover new ways of understanding contemporary art and how it expresses the conditions of current times.
