Suzhou is one of the most spectacular cities in the Yangtze River delta, famed for its sophisticated culture and classic scenery. From dynastic times, silk has played a major role in the city’s economy. We’ll begin our journey with a walk along the Grand Canal where our guides from Shanghai and Beyond will detail Suzhou’s history and point out iconic landmarks. At lunch, we’ll enjoy a round table array of Su cuisine, noted for its attention to detail, with flavors enhanced by meat or seafood. Next, we’ll tour the Silk Museum, which covers the development of sericulture and its influence on the Silk Road. We’ll have time to browse in the vast shopping area. Finally, we will tour the delicately landscaped Master of the Nets Garden, recognized as one of the finest gardens in China.
