For our sixth session in the series Survey of Art in China, we turn our attention to the frequently asked question “What makes Chinese art modern?” Through a systematic study examining the social and political context following the Taiping Rebellion (1850-1864), Art Historian Julie Chun will take you back in time to a pivotal juncture in China’s history when art took a turn towards modernism within the confluence of East and West at the most unexpected of places in Shanghai. Come join us for an afternoon steeped in art history and culture.
