This walk combines beautiful architecture and delicious wines with a leisurely stroll through one of Shanghai’s loveliest neighborhoods. Rue Maresca—the original name of Wuyuan Lu, in the western part of the former French Concession—is lined with heritage buildings of great historic and aesthetic value; and strolling with a glass of wine surely enhances the experience! Your guide, local historian Patrick Cranley, will use some of the lanes and buildings along the route as jumping-off points to talk about the French, British, German, Russian, Japanese, American, and Chinese residents of the neighborhood during earlier days in this part of the city.
