Hangzhou is probably the best city near Shanghai for cycling. The gorgeous West Lake and the surrounding hills make the biking enjoyable, while the opportunity to hike around a tea plantation will make a lasting impression.
After a two hour bus ride to Hangzhou in the morning, Bato Cycle will guide us as we cycle around the West Lake to fully enjoy the picturesque scenes. After that, we will bike to Long Jing Village where the most famous Dragon Well Tea is grown. Lunch is at a nice local restaurant surrounded by tea plants, and includes home-made dishes from a tea-grower’s family.
After lunch, we will spend two hours walking in the tea plantation and enjoy a spectacular view of the tea fields and the village. Early April is the time for tea harvesting. We may see how tea leaves are picked and talk to the tea farmers to learn more about the tea culture in Hangzhou.
Finally, we will take the bus back to Shanghai. Total cycling distance is 20 to 25km.
