How does China interpret Shanghai’s complicated history? The answer lies within the newly-opened Shanghai History Museum. We will explore the museum together with Patrick Cranley, president of Historic Shanghai and a 20+ year resident of Shanghai with an academic background in modern Chinese history, economics and politics. Patrick will deconstruct the history of China’s most cosmopolitan city in the air-conditioned comfort of the new museum, which is stocked with artifacts from the city’s fascinating development. And it’s all housed within a beautiful building that was once the clubhouse of the Shanghai Race Club, conveniently located on People’s Square at the center of Shanghai.
