Lake Tai is the third largest fresh-water lake in China. Its biggest island, Xishan, is blessed with clear water, beautiful villages and lovely orchards. It is best described by the islanders as: “Among waters, there are hills. Among hills, there are flowers. Among flowers, there are villages.” From Shanghai, we will travel by bus for 2 hours and then start our biking tour with China Cycle on the bridge that connects the mainland with the islands. We will enjoy the beautiful lake view as we bike 15 kilometers around the island, stopping for lunch at a local restaurant. Our menu will consist of famous Lake Tai treasures—fresh-water fish, shrimp, and delicious vegetables. After lunch, we will go to the orchard and pick oranges. The group will then proceed to Shigong Hill to get a bird’s eye view of the area, and finally we will bike another 10 kilometers back to the bridge and bus. (For those who prefer not to ride in the afternoon, the bus will be available.)
