International Women’s Day, March 8, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women’s Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. Make IWD your day – everyday.
“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.” – Gloria Steinam
Kathleen’s Waitan is the perfect venue for this year’s SEA International Women’s Day celebrations. Kathleen Lau is a trailblazer of Shanghai Restaurateurs, starting her first restaurant, Kathleen’s, in Guangzhou in 1996. She has since operated five restaurants in Shanghai, plus found time to start a magazine, That’s Shanghai, and write a book, Riding the Dragon: A Practical Guide to Living in Shanghai. The views overlooking the Huangpu River, the historic Bund, and the iconic Pudong skyline all compliment Kathleen’s Waitan’s modern yet classical style and delicious cuisine. We will be sharing the day with our friends from the American Club Shanghai, Brits Abroad, and the German Club. Raise a glass, enjoy food prepared by master-chefs, and spend an afternoon at one of the most loved restaurants in Shanghai.
