Cracking the Confucius Code-from Imperial Exam to the GaoKao

Event Details

  • Date:

In Shanghai’s Old City, the only former Confucius school provides an entertaining study explaining how Confucius single-handedly changed China’s ruling class system which led to today’s national entrance exam. First, we’ll explore some alleys and markets surrounding the school, where the lifestyle of locals is on full display, with woks sizzling, vendors clanging their bells, and the rattling of majiang tiles. Back at the school we’ll share stories and photos of the rigorous prep required for the Imperial Exam, the caustic test taking environment, and some creative cheating methods. We’ll also test your knowledge of Confucius quotations. Finally, you can participate in an incense-burning ceremony to honor the great sage and wish for career or academic success for you or your family members.
