Have you ever meandered through a Chinese garden in Shanghai or Suzhou and wondered about its elements and design? Let’s visit Yu Garden, one of the exquisite gardens of old Shanghai, together with sinologist and historian Maja von dem Bongart and learn the principles and ideas behind the classic Chinese garden. We’ll learn the history, the construction rules, and the purpose of Chinese gardens. Maja will explain why we see more rocks than flowers, and more buildings than lawns, so we can appreciate this important classical Chinese tradition.
