Built in 1930 by French investors , Cite Bourgogne is one of the best preserved Shikumen-style residential compounds left in Shanghai. Formerly the residence of many famous Chinese celebrities, it was marked as a historical building in 1989 by the city. Today, Lisa Zhu will help us explore this living heritage. We will take a peek at how the locals struggle to live in their aging homes, yet are still very proud of their neighborhood’s role in Shanghai history. As we explore this area, we will talk to locals about changes in the city that have affected their lives.
