Leave the hustle and bustle of Shanghai behind and join us on a bike ride along canals and charming countryside villages followed by a meandering walk through the ancient town of Xitang. Often depicted in Chinese paintings, and most recently seen in the final scenes of the Mission Impossible 3 movie, Xitang is a beautiful water town, best known for its many (well over 100) charming old stone bridges, covered walkways set along the banks of the canals, ancient cobblestone streets, and well-preserved antique houses.
After a comfortable 90 minute coach ride to Qingpu, we will begin our bicycle tour with our biking expert from Bato Cycle. The tour includes a ride along a picturesque canal surrounded by quaint villages, fishing ponds, duck farms, and rice paddies. After a refreshing break, we will continue our ride through an old village and will end the ride at Dashun, commonly known as Button Town, for a total cycling distance of approximately 20 kms. From this point, we will re-board our coach for the 20 minute drive to Xitang.
In Xitang we will lunch at a riverside restaurant allowing us the opportunity to try local delicacies. Then, we will relax aboard a local boat as we visit one of the many canals traversing the town. The day will end with a gentle stroll around the water town, visiting local museums and gardens, before returning to Shanghai.
