Located just one block from HuaiHai Lu’s glitzy retail mecca is historically hip Nanchang Lu. Here among the plane trees lies a stunning restoration formerly known as the French Club. Tour the building’s highlights while learning about its history and current usage. From there our journey winds through an upscale neighborhood with breathtaking villas hidden among towering plantains. Art deco, Spanish Colonial, and English country style homes are restored to their former glory, along with the former residence of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the father of modern China. Our hosts from Shanghai and Beyond will take you beyond the dry political rhetoric and reveal true stories of uprisings, kidnappings, and surprising connections. In Fuxing Park we’ll compare French style botanical gardens with a classic Chinese garden and perhaps see the colorful lifestyle of Shanghai’s retirees.
