Vince Ungvary will show how early European explorers came overland and across the seas to “discover” Asia. Starting with Marco Polo, these explorers returned to Europe with fabulous stories of the immense wealth and strange customs of the people in Asia. The lust for gold and spices first drew the Portuguese to the region, followed by the Dutch, the English, and the French. In their journeys, they mapped the Asian region in detail, creating beautiful & accurate charts. Vince will display a range of these original maps of China and Asia, some over 400 years old, for attendees to view close-up and ask questions.
