Lao zi hao means “the old reputable brand.” Hidden among the thousands of fancy malls and modern shops on Huaihai Road are some special businesses that have been local favorites since Shanghai’s “golden age.” Our guide, Lisa Zhu, will give us a taste of the old classic taste of Shanghai, before it disappears. We will walk along Middle Huaihai Road to visit a few different places, including a snack store featuring the regional food of Harbin, a hundred-year-old Shanghai restaurant, a simple but delicious noodle place, and a famous old bakery. We will taste and buy some local snacks to bring home and share the taste of Shanghai with our families.
