In 1986, a group of expats formed a support network to help each other in Shanghai, and to learn more about the city and the people and culture of China. Today, the Shanghai Expatriate Association is one of the largest organizations of its kind in China, and we're proud that the SEA has grown to encompass so many diverse nationalities and cultures.
Between September and June, the SEA organizes up to 20 events and activities for our members each month. Our events include: membership mixers, day trips, coffee mornings, luncheons, talks and lectures, Chinese cultural events, walks, fashion shows, culinary and wine events, exhibits and classes. The SEA Small Group activities include: mahjong, bridge, tennis, quilting, and crafts In July and August, when many expats are visiting their home countries, the SEA continues to hold a number of member events each month.
In addition to our membership activities, the SEA actively supports a number of children's organizations in and around Shanghai. We provide funding for school children and municipal orphanages, purchase needed hospital equipment for the children's hospital, arrange for medical care and therapy for disadvantaged children, host clothing and toy drives and more.
