The Shanghai Expatriate Association (SEA) is a non-profit, multinational, member-based organization. The SEA was established to provide a social and cultural network for expats and their families in Shanghai, and is one of the largest groups of its kind in China. We are committed to enriching the China experience for expats living in and around the greater Shanghai area. We welcome any foreign-passport holder as a member, and encourage you to browse our website for more information about the SEA.
In 1986, a group of expats formed a support network to help each other in Shanghai, and to learn more about the city, the people, and culture of China. Today, the Shanghai Expatriate Association is one of the largest organizations of its kind in China, and we’re proud that the SEA has grown to encompass so many diverse nationalities and cultures.
Between September and June, the SEA organizes over 20 events and activities for our members each month. Our events include: coffee mornings, luncheons, day trips, Chinese cultural events, city walks, art talks, health lectures, cooking classes, wine tastings, arts and crafts workshops, spa days, and travel excursions. The SEA Small Group activities include: architecture study group, book club, mahjong, and an international women’s choir. In July and August, when many expats are visiting their home countries, the SEA continues to hold a number of member events each month.
In addition, the SEA has partnerships with many businesses around Shanghai. SEA members can take advantage of generous discounts simply by showing the current membership card at over 50 establishments.
